The EEG Technologist performs prescribed electroencephalogram tests, with the knowledge and ability to collect, assess, interpret, and intervene as appropriate in care of pediatric, adult, geriatric, and critical care patients. This position may also serve as a clinical resource to Neurology.

EEG Technologist Overview

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares patients and equipment for EEG procedure
  • Operate equipment to record electrical activity of the brain during the procedure
  • Monitors patient respiration, heart, and brain activity during procedure
  • Records evoked responses from patient
  • Prepare readings for interpretation by a Physician, including annotating and identification of EEG activity
  • Performs standard and complex eletroencephalographic recordings and evoked potentials in a manner consistent with the standards of care, objectives, and procedures of the EEG Laboratory and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Assures availability and proper function of supplies and equipment
  • Assembles and adjusts equipment
  • Cleans, replenishes, and maintains instruments and supplies as needed
  • Participates in the evaluation of new equipment or supplies
  • Assists other members of the team with cleaning of procedure room and preparation for patient
  • Adheres to standards of clinical practice and patient care appropriate to the age and state of the patient
  • Collaborates with the Physician and other staff
  • Respects confidentiality of all information in compliance with HIPPA standards
  • Demonstrates ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an Accredited EEG or Polysomnography training program or equivalent experience (with documented proficiency) working towards R. EEG T. or R. PSG T. credentialing
  • BLS Certification
  • 1-2 years of previous EEG experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic digital literacy in a Windows environment
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communications
  • Ability to carry out non-routine procedures under constantly evolving conditions, with general instructions from supervisor
  • Ability to work evening and weekend shifts and at multiple job sites as determined by department needs

  • R. EEG T., R. EP T., CNIM, CLTM, R. PSG T.

Location: UMMC, East Bank - 500 SE Harvard St. Minneapolis, MN 55414

Additional Locations: UMMC, Children's - 2450 Riverside Ave Minneapolis, MN 55454

Hours: 0.75 FTE (30 hours/week)
