The Facilities Assistant is responsible for providing logistical support to the Facilities team. As part of the Facilities team, this position may be called upon to move furniture, clean and maintain building grounds, empty trash containers, inventory and stock housing and cleaning supplies, clear sidewalks of snow and respond to immediate janitorial needs

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Move housing and office furniture in a safe and efficient manner, using dollies and carts. Load and unload building materials in company vehicles and storage areas.
  • Keep residential building common areas clear of clutter.
  • Inventory and organize Facilities storerooms and shops, reporting needs to Facilities Manager.
  • Replace beds, end tables, couches, dressers and other furniture in residential apartment units during turnovers and as requested.
  • Replace refrigerators and microwaves in residential apartment units as needed.
  • Provide year-round grounds maintenance for housing facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to: picking up litter, snow and ice removal, light landscaping, lawn care, plant and tree maintenance, and trash removal.
  • Clear sidewalks of snow and ice and apply deicing agents following accumulative snow events, before or after hours if needed.
  • Respond to immediate janitorial needs within the 1900 Chicago Avenue Administration building and seven residential buildings.
  • Inventory and restock disinfecting agents, latex gloves, masks and other health and safety PPE at the 1900 Chicago Avenue Administration building.
  • Follow all safety and security procedures to ensure a safe environment for Avivo consumers and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all Avivo staff, consumers and the public in accordance to Avivo values.
  • Identify possible areas for facilities improvement and efficiencies.
  • Operates and maintains equipment such as vacuums and floor scrubbers.
  • Assist in emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Report all safety and security concerns immediately.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Degree or GED or 1 year experience required. Ability to read English at high school level.
  • Previous 6 months of experience working in facilities or construction.
  • Experience with or ability to learn to competently operate hand and power tools, as well as tools used in landscaping.
