As a core team member of Daikin Applied Technical Writing Center of Excellent (COE), this individual will have a primary responsibility to author technical documents for HVAC systems. Technical content is developed through research and analysis of engineering documents and consultation with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization. This role requires a high level of technical aptitude and the ability to turn technical concepts into clear and concise documentation such as service bulletins, installation, maintenance and operating manuals, engineering submittal documents, and other technical documentation as needed.

A Day in the Life:

  • Author and maintain a large volume of product manuals and other service documents.
  • Work with product engineers or managers to develop detailed descriptions of the product features, application, installation, and options.
  • Assist in proofing and editing technical publications of other writers for conformance to style and format.
  • Organize and research available data and write technical manuscripts from the data, including procedures and parts lists.
  • Determine illustration needs and recommend content to illustrators.
  • Meet with other writers to determine project assignments and report project status.
  • Schedule and conduct review meetings to approve new or revised publications before the final version is released.
  • Assist in the development and revision of style guides that meet the specific needs of Company products.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with all Company and HSE policies and procedures.
  • Provide documentation assistance to management and product engineering as necessary.
  • Proactively and promptly address documentation concerns of management and product engineering.
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering groups and project stakeholders.
  • Handle multiple projects effectively.
  • Actively participate in internal and external process improvements.

What you will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, technical communication, or professional writing
  • At least 2 years of technical writing experience with a heavy emphasis on developing documentation for commercial products.
  • Must be able to gather and assess technical documentation to create and update user documentation in compliance with engineering technical input, best practices, and department standards.
  • Ability to translate highly technical concepts into understandable content for the end user.
  • Ability to determine project scope and execute and complete assigned projects and deliverables.
  • Ability to balance work volume and quality and appropriately escalate potential risks and issues to management.
  • Must be able to work independently and with a team to publish high-quality technical documentation.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency with authoring and desktop publishing tools, specifically MS Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Outlook, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint
