Responsibilities

Residential nurses will assess and monitor residents daily functioning and assist in symptom management.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    Responsible for nursing assessment upon admission and the necessary discharge planning required in residential programs
  • Track and communicate pertinent medical information both verbally and through written documentation
  • Assist in scheduling appointments
  • Responsible for oversight of medication related duties including reviews of medication administration, gaining informed consent, providing medication education to families, residents and staff members and reviewing the MAR
  • Partners with entire residential team to provide a therapeutic environment for clients
  • Develop therapeutic rapport with clients and provide basic counseling
  • Assist clients in daily skills practice, and provide crisis intervention including de-escalation and safety holds
  • Participate in treatment planning for clients through observation, therapeutic intervention, and providing feedback and evaluation regarding client progress
  • Provide leadership and consultation to residential team through participation in administrator on-call rotation which includes variability in hours of availability
  • Provide consultation to other administrators on-call regarding medical or medication issues as needed
  • Must demonstrate psychological mindedness and self-awareness in understanding client behavior and interventions including a willingness to utilize supervision and consultation regarding experiences and demands of residential RN role.
Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge of nursing practices, which can be gained only through an accredited school of nursing. Current licensure as an RN with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing is required.
  • Requires knowledge of nursing practices
  • Required to be knowledgeable of and follow the Nurse Practice Act
  • Must have critical thinking skills and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to communicate and make safe judgment calls in stressful situations.
  • Able to do multiple tasks and communicate in a professional manner in both verbal and written format
  • Must have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office including Outlook and Word
  • Be oriented and educated in gender, cultural differences and in age appropriate care
  • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations
  • Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances
  • After training, be able to manage disruptive and explosive residents
  • Have flexibility in hours of availability for telephone consult to participate in administrator on-call responsibilities.
