COLLIERS SECURITIES is a registered broker-dealer. We provide underwriting, financial advisory, and securities brokerage services to individual, institutional, corporate, and governmental clients, predominantly in the Midwest region of the United States. As an introducing broker-dealer we clear all customer and proprietary trades through another broker-dealer on a fully disclosed basis.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the CFO, the Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting and financial information for the broker-dealer in accordance with GAAP, FINRA, MSRB, and SEC rules and regulations. Duties include supervising accounting team, financial reporting, monthly and annual regulatory reporting, financial analysis, managing annual audit, maintaining effective SOX controls, parent company reporting, special projects, and process and procedure development and improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, direct and execute all regular accounting operational functions including month-end accounting, reconciliation, financial statement reports for internal and external use
  • Prepare regulatory filings and audited financials including the preparation of FOCUS reports and supplemental filings
  • Preparation of regular Net Capital Computation, including, haircuts on securities
  • Detailed review of monthly commission and incentive calculations and payout
  • Supervise and review payroll processes
  • Oversee and direct invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, commission and compensation plans
  • Determine accounting treatment related to new transactions, products, or pronouncements
  • Prepare quarterly reporting and analysis to parent company
  • Direct and coordinate the annual audits by internal and external auditors
  • Provide management with financial information vital to the decision-making process
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 7+ years of accounting or related experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA preferred
  • Broker-dealer or financial services industry experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of and experience in US GAAP, accounting rules and guidelines
  • Knowledge of SEC, FINRA and MSRB regulations
  • Knowledge of securities industry processes
  • Understanding of internal controls
  • Intermediate proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite with advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of an organization
  • Strong critical reasoning and analytical skills with quantitative and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and prioritization capabilities

JOB EXPECTATIONS

  • Must have or obtain FINRA Series 27/28 within 120 days of hire
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
