LOCATION: Various Parks throughout Dakota County

Dakota County is currently seeking candidates to fill Temporary Park Maintenance positions that will work year round. Maintenance staff work within the Park System to complete semi-skilled building and ground maintenance tasks, opening and cleaning of County owned facilities and grounds such as camper cabins, rental facilities, visitor center, campgrounds, and trail head facilities. Staff will also prepare for and take down special events on the park grounds or facilities. Work is independently performed, but under the direction of a Ground Maintenance Supervisor or Park Keeper staff.

This is a great opportunity for current or recent graduates to gain experience or explore a career in a park system. Positions are currently available in all park locations. Assignment to specific regions varies on the candidate skills and availability.

Full-time temporary Park Maintenance staff typically work Monday - Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm, Part-time staff work dependent on needs and availability *** Some weekend shifts are required ***

Minimum Qualifications

* Must be 18 years or older at time of hire
AND
* A valid driver's license

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE BEYOND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Previous Park Maintenance or custodial experience desirable.

Duties & Responsibilities

These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

1. Perform landscaping work such as: shoveling, digging fence posts, mowing lawns, plantings, cutting & removing down trees & branches, and clearing trails.
2. Cleans and maintain camper cabins, park facilities, grounds, trails, beaches, campgrounds and equipment.
3. Keeps grounds and facilities neat, clean, safe and sanitary.
4. Uses tools and supplies required to perform assigned tasks in a safe, efficient manner.
5. Prepare for and take down special events on the park grounds or in park facilities.
6. Work is performed under the general direction of a Ground Maintenance Supervisor or Parkkeeper staff. At times maintenance staff may provide general work direction to others.
7. Reports violation of County Park ordinances to immediate supervisor.
8. Assist the public and other County staff with requests of assistance.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment

* Ability to work outdoors year round under all weather conditions.
* Ability to effectively work and communicate with the public, peers and supervisors.
* Ability to lift up to 24 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 74 pounds on an occasional basis.
* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
* Some knowledge of hand tools and power tools, mowers, ATV's, UTV's.
* Basic computer skills
* Some mechanical ability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and calls on the ability to perform strenuous physical tasks on a daily basis. The posture and movement requirement for this position are: frequent sitting, walking, bending/stooping, twisting and continuous reaching forward and push/pulling of objects. Position requires repetitive/constant bending of the arm and frequent grasping of hands. Work tasks require frequent lifting and carrying up to 24 pounds and occasional lifting up to 74 pounds. Driving is required for this position and staff must have the ability to use a variety of mowers, tractors, pickup trucks, ATV's, UTV's, and boats.

Exposures may include, but are not limited to changing weather conditions, uneven and/or slippery surfaces, dust, dirt, oil, grease, solvents, fumes, noise and all hazards associated with an equipment repair shop. Position requires sensory demands of hearing, speech, near & far vision, tactile, and spatial perception. Equipment used but not limited to include: hand and power tools, shovels, sledgehammer, post hole diggers, weed whips, ladders, wheelbarrows, personal computer, personal safety equipment and any of a large list of light and heavy equipment.
