HDR is currently in need of a Geotechnical Engineer to work as a member of our Water Business Group within the Dams, Levees, and Civil Works Team in Minnesota.

Primary Responsibilities

This individual will work with a collaborative, interdisciplinary team and will be responsible for the geotechnical analysis and design of dams, levees, and other infrastructure projects.

The candidate shall have 5 to 10 years (or more) experience in the field of geotechnical engineering.

Responsibilities/Requirements include:

  • The candidate will be responsible for preparing proposals and cost estimates for geotechnical investigations, coordinating field and laboratory testing, and interpreting and analyzing data to establish material parameters.
  • The candidate shall be able to travel for project field needs. These needs may include overseeing geotechnical investigations, providing construction oversite, and performing dam safety inspections.
  • The candidate shall have educational and/or work experience in the field of dams and levee engineering and large civil works infrastructure for water management and energy production. Specifically, the candidate shall be able to perform geotechnical engineering analyses including seepage, slope stability and consolidation.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Dam policies and engineering requirements.
  • Knowledge of construction document preparation including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • This individual will be expected to coordinate with the discipline leads to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives. Good written and verbal communication skills are expected and required for this position.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering required. MS Civil Engineering a plus.
  • 5 years geotechnical design experience required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Must have a familiarity with geotechnical engineering software (Geostudio, gINT, etc.)
  • Must be willing to travel throughout the United States on an as-needed basis.
