Job Description

The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp is hiring a Lifeguard.

Position Summary

The Lifeguard is responsible for the safety of all water-based activities at the pool and lake. The Lifeguard will reside on-site at The Salvation Army Northern Division Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN for the duration of their temporary employment during summer camp.

$350 stipend

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)

  • Monitor participants during water-based activities to ensure safety. (30%)
  • Inspect, maintain, and clean swimming areas and equipment. (20%)
  • Support and actively participate in all assigned camp programs and activities. (20%)
  • Observe campers and program areas, reporting and responding to health and safety concerns immediately. (15%)
  • Support campers in following rules and expectations when participating in water-based activities, providing guidance and positive reinforcement. (10%)
  • Attend spiritual activities. (5%)

Education and Experience

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization required.
  • Current waterfront lifeguard certification from a recognized organization preferred.
  • Experience working with children, preferred.
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be willing to participate in religious activities.
  • Must pass vetting process (e.g., background checks, reference checks) per policy.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to attend staff orientation week.
  • Room and Board provided in addition to biweekly stipend. Required to live on-site at Northwoods camp during the summer.
  • Position is seasonal, approximately mid-June through August, includes nights and weekends.
  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, swimming, and lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to fully participate in activities and events (outdoors and indoors).
  • Camp environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person.
