About the Job


The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently and maintain
general operation of the lab (ordering supplies, maintaining records, etc.), design
experiments, conduct research, evaluate results, perform statistical analyses, publish
data in scientific journals and make oral presentations. This individual is also expected
to apply for extramural funding by means of post-doctoral fellowships and awards.


Duties:
50% - research examining novel mechanisms involving forebrain structures of the brain
in the long term regulation of blood pressure and the pathogenesis of hypertension.
Projects involve characterizing the specific role of the organum vasculosum of the
lamina terminalis (OVLT), and celiac ganglion, and the chronic hypertensive response
to vasoactive hormones such as Angiotensin II.

25% - Studies involving the role of the gut microbiome, immune system, and gut
metabolites, and the sympathetic nervous system in the pathogenesis of rodent models
of hypertension, and the changes induced during OVLT or celiac ganglion ablation.

25% - Chronic instrumentation of rats to measure blood pressure and other
hemodynamic parameters in these experiments.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have an M.D., Ph.D., DVM or equivalent degree with a demonstrated
record of innovation and excellence in physiology and the neural control of the
circulation and long term regulation of blood pressure, with an interest in developing
further expertise in the specific areas of focus described above. Experience with whole
animal surgical techniques, neurosurgery and ablation, and chronically instrumented
rats are desirable. Furthermore, a background in neuroscience and cardiovascular
physiology would be further assets. Additional background experience working with
Word, Excel, Power point and statistical software is preferred.
