POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION
 
POSITION TITLE:  Designated Inspector                                DATE: February 2024

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Designated Inspector reports to the Chief Inspector responsible for physically inspecting aircraft, aircraft components, and reviews related paperwork to ensure that workmanship meets acceptable standards of quality, and that customer aircraft are returned to service in an airworthy condition with all required documentation properly completed and filed; operates in compliance with company safety practices and performs other duties as assigned.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  1. Responsible for all quality control inspections on aircraft in the Part 145 Repair Station.
  2. Completes inspections of aircraft repairs and alterations to ensure conformity to FAA approved/acceptable data.
  3. Coordinates mechanical, electrical and inspection requirements on the aircraft during maintenance or outfitting.
  4. Keeps accurate, neat and legible records of the work performed on aircraft.
  5. Coordinates throughout assigned jobs with RTS to ensure accurate aircraft records are produced in a timely manner.
  6. Conducts audits of maintenance documentation for accuracy and completion on all aircraft prior to approval for return to service.
  7. Ensures aircraft is airworthy prior to any flight activities.
  8. Accomplish research of Aircraft Log Books and or computer maintenance programs to identify ongoing inspection programs, status of aircraft within those programs, Airworthiness Directive status, and Service Bulletin status.
  9. Continually monitor repair station compliance with FAR Part 145 and the FAA accepted site Repair Station and Quality Control Manual.
  10. Assist leads and supervisors in training of Airworthiness Inspectors.
  11. Works with and instructs subordinate mechanics/technicians in troubleshooting and operational/functional procedures.
  12. Signs FAA 8130-9 Statement of conformity on projects completed on his/her aircraft.
  13. Provide training to less experienced Airworthiness Inspectors. Promote high standards of quality through instruction and by setting the example.
  14. May perform DAS and/or ODAR functions as assigned.
  15. Operates in compliance with company safety practices.
  16. Proficiency in use of quality management system in Q-Pulse software.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 
  1. HS/GED Education is required. Technical education preferred.
  2. A current A&P License is required.  IA certification is preferred.
  3. Rotorcraft experience is required. Fixed wing experience is preferred. .
  4. Ability to work closely with technical personnel and facilitate difficult conversations with the goal of solving the issue.
  5. Strong written/verbal (including technical) communication skills, prioritize tasks.
  6. Proficient in blueprint reading, use/interpretation of maintenance manuals, test specs and other related documentation required.
  7. Strong Microsoft Office computer skills required.
  8. Five years aircraft inspection experience required..
  9. Proficient in the utilization of Federal Aviation Regulations, FAA forms and documents.
 
Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to sit; walk, talk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel occasionally.
 
Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions such as extreme cold and heat, work near moving mechanical parts and vibration and work in high, precarious places.  Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and work with explosives.  The noise level in the work environment falls within acceptable limits of OSHA guidelines.
