Company Overview

The Busch Family immigrated to the United States from Germany in the 1800’s.  Fred Busch began growing vegetables on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis. Then, in 1920, Bill, Fred, and Carl Busch, the second generation, moved the business to Golden Valley, Minnesota. There, they began growing flowers as well. Sixteen years later, Len Busch was born. He worked with his family at Busch Brothers for most of his childhood. After earning his degree in Floriculture at Ohio State University, he left Busch Bros in 1965 to begin what is now Len Busch Roses in Plymouth, MN. He began growing pompons in a modest 28,000 sq. foot greenhouse and it wasn’t until 1969 that he started growing roses.  Today the business is led by Len’s son, Patrick Busch. He and his wife Diana along with their four children play an active role at Len Busch Roses. Their hope is to one day have another generation of Busch’s to carry on the business.

Len Busch built the company with one driving focus – to provide his customers with the best quality flowers that could be produced. This philosophy has been core to our business and still is today. Now, almost fifty years later, the crops have changed but the focus on quality has not! Today, we produce Alstroemeria, Lilies, Tulips, Snapdragons, Gerberas, and Potted Flowering plants. In total, over 7 million stems and pots are produced and sold per year in 15 acres of greenhouses. In addition to our own production, we source flowers from around the world to provide our customers with a full line of the world’s best flowers available and also carry a full line of floral supplies. We distribute our products from 100,000 square feet of distribution space and 30,000 square feet of refrigeration.

Innovation is critical to the success of Len Busch Roses. Today, the entire greenhouse is heated with environmentally friendly biomass boilers that burn tree trimming waste provided from the local communities. In addition, all of our greenhouses are covered with a twin wall acrylic sheet that reduces heat costs and is low maintenance. We also use hydroponics and reduce fertilizer consumption by capturing and recycling the excess water when growing cut flowers. Potted plants are produced using movable trays that water with ebb and flow technology that recycles 100 percent of the excess water and allows for efficient automation of planting and spacing pots. We also have a trained entomologist and use predator insects to control pests that are harmful to our flowers in place of chemical control. Finally, our salespeople have online access to current and future availability of over 3,000 perishable floral products daily through our business operating software. All of these innovations have been integral to Len Busch Roses being the only major grower of cut flowers in the central United States.
