Springsted Incorporated was founded in the early 1950s in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While still headquartered in Saint Paul, the firm has grown to include offices in multiple states across the nation. The company is an S corporation.

A privately held company, Springsted is owned by three individuals, each of whom is actively involved in the business. Springsted is a women-owned business enterprise, with two-thirds of its stock owned by women.
