Length of Assignment: 6 months, 40/hrs per week.
Location: Given the current uncertainty of the global pandemic and work from home situation for 2022, this internship is currently planned to be virtual with the option for interns to work remotely from within the U.S. borders.
Education Level: Currently pursuing a PharmD, MPH/MS/PhD; Economics, public health, public policy, or health services research disciplines are preferred.
Evidence for Access is a team with diverse business and clinical expertise that generates data to support evidence-based care decisions, advocate for optimal patient outcomes and experiences to demonstrate the value propositions of our medicines.
We are currently recruiting a summer intern to help us develop and translate new processes, models, methods and technologies into meaningful scientific exchanges for improved patient access.
As part of a cross-functional team, you will contribute to the generation of scientific evidence to demonstrate the value of Genentech and its products and to projects designed to study and measure health system performance through health services research.
Candidates must be highly self-motivated and willing to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams that work hard in an atmosphere of casual intensity developing medicines for unmet medical needs.
In this role, there is an opportunity to work on molecules across BioOncology, Immunology, Neurology and Rare Disease, as well as health policy and systems research.
Key Deliverables Include:
Drafting of research protocols, abstracts, posters and manuscripts for publication
Gathering clinical and economic data from the literature to populate model parameters
Designing models of care pathways, natural history of disease, and costs of care to evaluate impacts of clinical or policy interventions on patient outcomes, population health, and health care system costs
Database analysis (Retrospective and/or prospective)
Development of research proposals
Key Responsibilities include:
Engage in a variety of activities, including development of study descriptions, data analysis plans, abstracts and manuscripts
Read and synthesize literature regarding a specific disease, medical, or policy intervention
Gain hands-on experience in designing, developing and communicating health economic models
Work independently, with direction and mentoring from manager and other peers to clarify directions and expand knowledge and skills.
Receive one-to-one training on the technical aspects of the role while learning about project management and effective communication
Apply research methodologies to develop and evaluate data to support evidence needs for our products
Manage analyses that provide information on the costs and benefits of medical interventions to support product and market development, reimbursement
Contribute to design and execution of primary and secondary observational studies and economic models with support from collaborators.
Develop in-depth understanding of US health care systems, policies, and the payer environment.
Assess external landscape and work with internal stakeholders to identify evidence gaps in response to current or proposed policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a PharmD, MPH/MS/PhD; Economics, public health, public policy, or health services research disciplines are preferred
Experience and coursework in economic modeling, multivariable methods, study design, domestic healthcare systems and public policy
Problem-solving mindset and willingness to work independently and collaboratively to find solutions
GPA 3.0
For Colorado and New York-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is $21-$50 hourly. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for the benefits listed below.
