Job Description
What You Will Do: The Director, Mobile Platforms will report to the VP of Mobile Platforms and be an instrumental part of the company's digital strategy. The role will be in the Commercial Digital Solutions group (CDS) at Ecolab, reporting up through its Chief Digital Officer. This individual will serve as the technology leader for the company's mobile app platforms. The Director will work with business leaders and product managers to design, develop and execute a mobile technology strategy that will deliver new client-facing digital capabilities and increased software automation that expand and enhance the company's market position as a leading digital provider in the industry. Ecolab is a leading provider of products across diverse industries, with multiple mobile applications in its portfolio. Over the last several years, it has undergone a significant digital evolution, replacing physical solutions with digital products, improving productivity, as well as pace, and transforming development processes from waterfall to Agile. Additionally, the company has created a mobile platform and migrated to the cloud. The new Director will be responsible for further accelerating the shift to Agile processes, while also driving increased automation and improving speed to market. The development of new products and further migration to the cloud will also enable the company's ability to integrate the various apps, creating an opportunity to cross-pollinate data and create learning loops across the suite of products. Leveraging big data and analytics can also further the impact of the solutions, monetization opportunities and impact for customers. Scaling the platform is a crucial aspect of the role, as there is potential for millions of users, spanning multiple customers and industries. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in iOS/Android design and development, with one or more apps in the Apple App Store/Google Play Store. The current technology organization is spread across two primary locations ? St. Paul and India. This new leader will have the opportunity to further develop the team, while also creating a dynamic organizational structure that possesses the needed skills to improve productivity and innovation. Travel to India and St. Paul will be required for remote candidates. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Responsible for all external-facing software and development in support of the mobile platform. Build capabilities to support differing customer needs as they relate to quality, while maintaining the core mission of building the highest quality products on the market. * Responsible for managing a global organization and supplier network of resources, necessary to deliver on departmental and functional group goals related to mobile development and delivery. * Establish and deploy standard methodology, tools and processes for diverse domestic and international development centers to include, but not limited to, software development methodology; security practices; architecture; software quality; and usability. * Provide industry leadership in technical mobile solutions for customers, across varying industries served by Ecolab. Serve as a thought leader in the mobile space for all things mobile. * Responsible for building a high-performing global team, measured with KPIs, with the necessary skills to execute the business. * Create and maintain a shared vision for products and technology by partnering with the product owners that translates into product strategy from implementation through end of life * Create and build strong operating partnership with Ecolab's IT and CDS organization, business leaders, and 3rd party partners. * Provide input on cost, timing/sequencing needs and technical viability and acquisition opportunities to support development of a product roadmap. * Manage and optimize the operational cost for the mobile platform and create and publish metrics that provide this visibility. Basic Qualifications * 10+ years of experience in engineering roles in integrated software and hardware environments with deep understanding of UX and UI design paradigms, and ability to implement and design mobile apps. 5+ of overall mobile software development experience including experience deploying apps to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. * Successful experience working with and tuning high-volume and/or mission critical mobile applications. * A fully rounded technologist, and Object Oriented philosopher with full stack working experience in developing scalable mobile applications (Android/iOS,) and integrating with backend APIs * Leading teams: Leadership of engineering teams of at least 50 across multiple locations and executing a culture of engineering rigor, using data. * Demonstrated knowledge and experience in software engineering best practices and the ability to influence the team to adopt the practices especially in the area of mobile development. * Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and grow teams to achieve high team engagement, efficiency, and quality. * Education: A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, software engineering is required.
