Job Description

The SQL Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, maintenance and performance of SQL Databases. Key responsibilities include: Data Solutions Engineering and Database Administration, Database Performance and Availability, and Collaboration and Project Support.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in translating business needs and architectural requirements into commensurate database requirements.
  • Assist in-house developers with "best-practice" use of the database platform for releases and database features.
  • Ensure database security standards and best practices are monitored and enforced; support auditing needs.
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Maintain the SQL Database platform, ensuring that upgrades and patches are applied appropriately and EOSL versions deprecated as relevant.
  • Monitor SQL environment for performance, availability and errors.
  • Troubleshoot as necessary to optimize databases and the SQL server environment while ensuring high-availability and performance.
  • Assist with support calls that may involve database platform issues.
  • Facilitate discussions within and outside IT to ensure database administration technologies and processes are correctly integrated across business programs.
  • Support project governance activities as required to ensure database engineering and administration principles continue to be integrated correctly as projects progress.
  • Additional duties as required


Required Education and Experience

  • 2-4 years of relevant data technology roles, such as system or solutions developer
  • Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred; relevant education and experience in other disciplines are also considered

  • Skilled in problem solving, research and customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person.
  • Able to effectively train and lead other team members on small team projects. Able to give effective presentations and write convincing proposals / reports for team consumption.
  • Can creatively tackle problems and identify/isolate contributors within areas of technology that responsible for, in order to think through problem solving.
  • Familiarity with the ITIL Framework

  • Microsoft Certifications (preferred)
  • MS SQL Server/ DBA/Development
  • Microsoft Data Tools
  • Team Foundation server (TFS)
  • PowerShell
  • Data management tools

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday during standard business hours; evening and weekends as needed. Regular and reliable attendance required.
