We are currently looking for an experienced employment attorney for the corporate law department. The successful candidate will have 10+ years employment and labor law. The position will be based at UnitedHealth's headquarters in the Minneapolis area. Prior in-house corporate legal experience is a plus, but not required. Prior experience advising businesses having operations in multiple states is required.
Main Duties:
  • Primary duties will consist of advising on employment matters to include terminations, sexual harassment, discrimination, wage issues, and state and federal compliance. (e.g., ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, OFCCP and WARN Act)
  • Provide educational information in all matters relating to employment and labor issues.
  • Review, interpret and makes recommendation to management for improvement of company policies, procedures and programs.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of industry-leading practices and trends.
  • Consult with internal and external legal counsel on policy matters, as appropriate, to ensure compliance with employment legislation.
  • Respond to day-to-day policy issues raised within the organization and, according to circumstances, provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution.
  • Handle employee relations issues such as absence management and internal disputes.
  • Support resolution of EEOC, state and local agency claims and charges.

Qualifications
  • JD required, with a minimum of 10 years of legal experience focused on employment and compliance matters with a national law firm and/or corporate law department.
  • Initiative, integrity, resilience, and ability to manage multiple large-scale projects.
  • Ability to present information (prepare reports, rationale and recommendations) to management clearly and concisely
  • Collaborative, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility and partner with others.
  • Expert knowledge of employee relations and compliance issues.
  • License to practice law in MN.
