Responsibilities
Acute Psychiatric Services currently has 2 casual/intermittent positions available as Acute Psychiatric Services Practitioner. This position would provide psychiatric assessments and treatments to clients presenting to Acute Psychiatric Services.

Job Functions
1. Perform initial and ongoing assessment of psychiatric needs of clients presenting to Acute Psychiatric Services
2. Provide relevant patient and family education
3. Assess clients for release of transportation holds
4. Assess clients for need for hospitalization; if appropriate, place on 72-hour hold
5. Order restrains and seclusion if needed
6. Provide psychiatric consultation services to patients housed elsewhere in the hospital on evenings and nights.

For those APS Providers who are Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants, the following job functions also apply:
1. Perform initial and ongoing assessments of medical needs of clients presenting to Acute
Psychiatric Services
2. Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses based on history and physical exam
3. Perform face to face assessments of clients in restraints or seclusion
4. Medication management of both medical issues and psychiatric emergencies
5. Perform physical exams on clients prior to transfer to other hospitals
6. Order and interpret labs and diagnostic tests as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Work Experience

Nurse Practitioners:
-- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program and two years
of full-time experience in psychiatric nursing.
-- Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner as issued by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center

Physicians’ Assistants:
-- Certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician
Assistants
-- Two years full-time experience in the psychiatric field

Clinical Nurse Specialists:
-- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program and two years
of full-time experience in psychiatric nursing
-- Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from the American Nurses
Credentialing Center

Psychologist:
-- Licensed psychologist with a Doctorate Degree
-- Licensed with Minnesota Board of Psychology
