Supervises: Prop Assistant, Prop Master, Shop Assistant, Shop Carpenter

Position Overview:
The Shop Carpenter is responsible for the construction and fabrication of all sets and props required for the studios. This also involves the set up and striking of sets, the pick up of building material and helping with the acquisition and storage of props and product.

Success Attributes:
It is important to be a good carpenter as well as a good listener. Understand the needs and have the flexibility to change as the demands change. The constant interaction with other departments requires quick response and a pleasant disposition.

Essential Functions:
Principal Accountabilities & Authority:
The Shop Carpenter reports directly to the Shop Manager. Using technical drawings supplied by the designer the shop carpenter must accurately produce a finished project on a timely basis. Deadlines, budgets, installations and strikes are to be followed as strictly as possible. Care and cleanup of the shop, shop tools and set storage must be maintained.
Qualifications:
Education:
Attend an accredited technical school or college for a period of at least 2 years. Course work in technical theater or applied industrial arts is essential.

Experience:
Practical experience in structural carpentry, finish carpentry, prop construction, etc.
Applicants should have at least one year prior work experience as a craftsman using carpentry skills.

Travel:
The only travel required is with the possible transfer of props or material pickup. This may involve certain documentation and training in the use of the company vehicle.
Physical Activity:
As much as 80% - 100% of the workday may be on your feet involving lifting, climbing and moving of props and construction material.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting 40 - 70 lbs. is required as well as climbing and working on ladders. This position can be physically demanding
Conditions:
The work environment revolves around the studios, set storage and the shop. Respect for on air silence must be maintained when necessary, concern for safety at all times and when working in noisy, messy or potentially hazardous circumstances, proper safety protection will be supplied and used.
Tools / Equipment:
It is essential to be familiar with and become familiar with all tools in the shop. Maintain and repair tools as necessary and be proactive in helping to provide a safe working environment.
