Position Description
THE CANDIDATE
The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall management of MRCI’s operations, directing the daily activities in order to achieve the mission, strategic goals and annual plans as agreed upon with the Board of Directors.
The work environment at MRCI is cultivated by the individuals who balance strong leadership, business skills, and the achievement of goals with thoughtfulness and passion for the mission. A talented staff is currently in place, thus the leadership focus is to work collaboratively with staff to grow and expand the business and achieve results through effective delegation, coaching and recognition.
The CEO plays the key role in the organization and requires an individual with a confident, polished, professional approach and active leadership style. Exceptional interpersonal skills are required to interact with staff, board, clients, families, volunteers, legislators, funders and community members. The successful candidate will be visionary, energetic, empowering, inspiring, and creative, with a strong sense of integrity and an approachable, personable and genuine style of interacting with others. The successful individual must have a track record in leading a non-profit organization through program growth and expansion of the mission.
THE POSITION
The CEO manages MRCI’s operations in accordance and compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures; all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing a community rehabilitation program; and with all applicable standards as established by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The CEO leads the vision, programs and activities that reflect the mission of the organization.
Mission and Vision
• Leads the organization’s strategic planning efforts
• Provides effective and efficient programs and services to adults with disabilities or disadvantages that support their employment and/or community involvement in an environment that protects the health and safety of those served
Staffing and Organization Development
• Creates and sustains an organization and staffing plan that supports the organization’s needs
• Recruits, hires, trains, and motivates a talented staff that meets or exceeds goals
• Ensures a high level of teamwork and communication among staff
• Creates a positive work environment that leads to employment retention
Operations and Financial Management
• Interprets and presents reports reflecting the effectiveness and efficiency of the operations to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders
• Leads preparation of annual operating and capital budget which reflects the needs and resources necessary to meet the organization’s goals and presents to the Board of Directors for approval
• Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations pertaining to the operation of a non-profit rehabilitation facility
• Develops and modifies organizational policies for approval by the Board of Directors and implements approved policies
• Leads fund-raising efforts through the MRCI Foundation
Partnerships
• Acts as a liaison with community business people and leaders to develop and sustain opportunities for clients
• Nurtures and maintains a strong collaborative relationship with leaders in community and government to ensure programs and resources are available to meet the needs of the clients served
• Works collaboratively with MRCI Board of Directors, MRCI Foundation Board, and MRCI Auxiliary Members
• Develops additional Metro relationships and partnerships
• Serves as a member of a Board of Directors of an organization in the industry or related field
THE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPENTENCIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competencies that result in leading the organization to a new level. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Master’s degree in related field preferred.
• Five years leadership experience in a non-profit organization of comparable size or larger
• Experience or understanding of working with individuals who have disabilities
• Active and/or experience in industry-related state organizations, CARF experience preferred
• Demonstrates strategic thinking, articulates vision, and translates strategy into action
• Demonstrates strong fiscal skills including budget development, management and monitoring as well as the accountability to deliver financial results
• Exhibits exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build internal and external relationships easily. Proven written communication skills. Displays leadership skills including planning and problem-solving.
• Demonstrates ability to understand and manage multiple complex and conflicting tasks and demands.
• Believes in working as a team and takes a collaborative approach in engaging and working with staff, volunteers and Board to achieve desired results
• Demonstrates organizational leadership by staff development, performance management, conflict resolution and change management skills
• Exhibits high level of personal and professional integrity
