This is a limited tenure position that has been approved for 1 year that may have the possibility of turning into a regular position. The Mayo Clinic Division of Engineering and Technical Services designs and develops innovative systems, devices and instrumentation. We are seeking a highly motivated graduate engineer with exceptional skills in Finite Element Analysis and Biomechanics to work on NIH-funded research on ¿Epidemiology of Age-Related Bone Loss and Fractures¿. This work is being performed in collaboration with the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolism. The preferred candidate will have completed (at a minimum) Masters level coursework and will satisfy many of the following attributes: Excellent knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), ANSYS preferred. Excellent understanding of mechanics and properties of materials and biomaterials. Strong interest in bone tissue modeling. Excellent knowledge of medical image processing and tissue segmentation techniques, MIMICS preferred. Excellent knowledge of numerical methods for engineers, graduate coursework with MATLAB preferred. Good understanding of transport phenomena (fluid, heat, diffusion) and bone physiology. Strong analytical, technical writing and communication skills. Strong GPA. Ability to work with engineers and technicians from varied backgrounds. Familiar with lab work including material and structural testing machines, sensors and instrumentation (load, displacement, stress/strain), data acquisition including LabView. Class work (preferred): Finite Element Analysis, Solid Mechanics, Elasticity, Plasticity, Fracture Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Bioinstrumentation.
Strong preference will be given to candidates who have completed PhD coursework. This position is ideal for OPT/CPT work for F-1 visa holders.
