Coordinator, Sports and Rec - Duluth

Description:
To provide a variety of sports and recreation programs to challenge and motivate participants that will result in increased self confidence and independence, improved health and wellness, and positive identity for people with disabilities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, evaluate, lead and promote quality sport and recreation opportunities that help participants gain self-confidence, independence and leadership skills. Working with supervisor, coordinate and provide a variety of quality sports and recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities and youth with autism.
  • Provide on-going leadership and training to Sports and Recreation volunteers and communicate pertinent information to them.
  • Represent Courage Center as a resource to participants and their families, providing information on improving quality of life through participation in community programs and services. Be a resource to the community and other organizations on disability issues. Establish strong relationships with professional relationships outside media and community to promote programs. Present Courage Center Sports and Recreation programs at conferences, colleges, schools, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist strongly preferred.
  • BA in adaptive physical education, or special education with a minimum of three years experience in a related field preferred.
  • Experience working alongside young people with autism spectrum disorder and/or physical disabilities required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and participant relations skills.
  • Strong communication, written and verbal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
