Position Description

SUMMARY
Completes all work assigned by the supervisor and continues education as necessary to attain Technician position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Works alongside an assigned technician to learn to perform quality vehicle service maintenance & repairs.
*2. Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
*3. Diagnose cause of any malfunction and performs repair correctly the first time.
4. Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
*5. Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
*6. Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
*7. Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
8. Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
9. Road tests vehicles when required to duplicate concerns or to verify concern.
10. Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events and keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
11. Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
12. Reports machinery defects or malfunctions on equipment or special service tools to supervisor.
13. Ensures that customers' cars and shop are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
14. Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
15. Operates all tools & equipment in a safe manner (i.e. lifts, balancer, alignment rack, air tools, etc).
16. Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Reports any safety issues immediately to management. (Use of ear and eye protection required.)
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports & read and understand computers.
3. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
4. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
5. Valid Driver's License, acceptable driving record & at least 18 years of age required to drive company or customer vehicles.
6. Recommended Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
A. Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Certification for Auto/Light Truck
B. Brakes Certification for Auto/Light Truck
C. Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification for Auto/Light Truck
D. Engine Performance Certification for Auto/Light Truck
E. Engine Repair Certification for Auto/Light Truck
F. Heating and Air Conditioning Certification for Auto/Light Truck
G. Manual Drive Train and Axle Certification for Auto/Light Truck
H. Suspension and Steering Certification for Auto/Light Truck

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Regularly required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms; required to stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear and smell.
2. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals; and occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, risk of radiation and vibration.
