| Examples of Work Performed: | |
| * Performs independent health assessments of individuals, families and communities by evaluating their physical, mental and social and environmental health status; and provides nursing and community health intervention based on assessment of need and current community resources. * Makes skilled nursing observations and assessments of client health care status by monitoring and documenting such things as vital signs, pulse, presence of edema, heart and lung auscultation, blood and urine laboratory values, intake and output, consciousness and orientation levels; by completing a health history and evaluation, and evaluating living arrangements. * Provides case management for clients by developing care plans, consulting with other health care providers such as physicians and social workers, referring clients to other health care resources, participating in team meetings, coordinating health care services provided by ancillary personnel such as home health aides, and instructing clients and families on methods of positive health maintenance; initiates and conducts interdisciplinary conferences. * Provides orientation and training to Public Health Nurses, Home Health Aides, Health Education Program Assistant; and Public Health Licensed Practical Nurses by providing leadership in the area of case management techniques, current medical and nursing technologies, current public health trends, and community resources. * Intervenes in emergency situations by notifying proper authorities such as police, physicians, child protection agencies and personnel in medical facilities/emergency rooms; provides information to court officials in cases of child and adult protection. * Develops and provides health education and consultation services to community members, clients and family members, other professionals and Ramsey County employees on a one-to-one and group basis through home visits, clinics, health promotion and community outreach activities, responding to requests for information by phone or in person; coordinates and conducts health fairs; develops written and oral educational materials and curricula; and, teaches classes on topics related to public health issues, disease prevention and recognition, and safety and injury prevention; facilitates youth at-risk support groups on public health issues at local schools. * Serves on or chairs internal and external work groups, task forces and advisory committees for the purpose of influencing and developing policy and procedures related to various community public health issues. * Initiates contacts with potential grant sources and assists with the drafting of proposals for funding; manages grants by maintaining data related to activities and drafting periodic reports to grantors as required. * Documents cases, health promotion and community activities by preparing reports and necessary paperwork, developing and maintaining required records and writing case histories. | |
| Minimum Qualifications: | |
| Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a university or college accredited by the National League for Nursing. Experience: None Other: Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota, have a Minnesota Public Health Nursing Certificate, and a valid drivers' license. | |

| Examination: NO EXAMINATION WILL BE GIVEN FOR PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE. The names of all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications stated above and who file a properly complete application and supplemental application shall be placed on the eligible list for employment as a Public Health Nurse. Names will remain on the list for 12 months or until hired, whichever occurs first. This list is updated once a month. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time of posting of the eligible list. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should submit or update their veteran's preference claim form as soon as possible. NOTE: Ramsey County offers insurance contributions on the first of the month following thirty (30) days of employment for those who elect insurance coverage.
