The Minnesota Legislature recognized after World War II the need for a Veterans Service Officer and a law was passed which permits each County Board to establish a County Veterans Service Office. A Service Officer is appointed by the County Board of Commissioners for a four year term and he/she may be reappointed. The office procedures and routine are under the supervision of the Commissioner of the Minnesota State Department of Veterans Affairs.
