Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Diesel Maintenance. The primary function of this position is the upkeep and maintenance of the mine mobile equipment fleet and/or the locomotive and track maintenance fleet, consisting of loading, haulage, and all support equipment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain mine mobile equipment fleet and/or locomotive and track maintenance fleet.
  • Work in a self-directed environment to complete daily, weekly, monthly repairs and break-in work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-year degree with certification in Diesel or Automotive Mechanics or equivalent applicable experience; OR an equivalent apprenticeship program; OR applicable military experience; OR at least 2 years of related full-time work experience is required.
  • Must be proficient in troubleshooting and repair of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment.
  • Must be able to read and understand air and hydraulic schematics.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical prints.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated safe working practices and excellent safety record.
  • Able to read and interpret schematics, parts books, and technical manuals.
  • Willing to work varying shifts on a rotating schedule and overtime as needed.
  • Applicant must achieve a satisfactory score on the NSM Diesel Maintenance Assessment.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position; including vision requirements (specific to determining colors).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in welding, burning, and arc airing.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Preference is given to those with prior heavy equipment hydraulics troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mobile equipment using computer diagnostic programs.
  • Previous small fleet automotive experience.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems software is preferred. Will be required to generate work orders and requisition parts.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.

Successful candidates will need to pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen; background check, and other pre-employment testing.
