About the Job

Full-Time Lecturer Position in Physics
The University of Minnesota Crookston, one of five campuses comprising the University of Minnesota system, invites applications for a full time faculty member to teach classes in the Math, Science and Technology (MST) Department in the area of Physics. This position is for individuals with a master's degree and/or a terminal degree with an interest in teaching and service at the undergraduate level.

POSITION:
Full-time, nine-month, annual-renewable lecturer position in Physics (Class #9754) in the Math, Science and Technology (MST) Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 14, 2024. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and a competitive fringe benefits package is offered.

Lecturers are eligible for professional development support. This appointment carries a 30.0 credit hour workload per academic year, distributed over the fall and spring semesters. Final job offer is contingent upon complete background check and receipt of official transcripts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate students in various majors; participate in assessment of activities and pedagogy programs in the Math, Science and Technology Department; advise students; contribute to student recruitment and retention initiatives; and support research and community outreach in physics and/or physics education. Likely course assignments will include a one-semester Introductory Physics course and a one-year algebra based College Physics sequence, and potentially other courses related to the candidate's expertise.

The position requires regular office hours and engagement in service activities on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Physics or Physics Education or a closely related field;
  • Strong commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching at the undergraduate level in both the on-campus and online environment;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences and to draw upon cultural and community-based knowledge in teaching;
  • Possess a commitment to an experiential education philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission;
  • Ability to read, write and understand English;
  • Final job offer contingent upon receipt of official transcripts, complete background check, and authorization to work in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Physics or Physics Education;
  • Teaching experience at the college level;
  • Research experience in an academic institution;
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and scholarly publication;
  • Experience with externally funded projects and grants.
About the Department

Courses in the area of physics are designed to either satisfy Liberal Education requirements for students in any degree or to satisfy program requirements for pre-professional majors in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department and the Math, Science and Technology Department.
