This position is a HYBRID (T, W, and Th) role based out of Maple Plain, MN

Protolabs currently serves over 85% of Fortune 500 customers in our target industries and has established a strong foundation to continue to grow with these customers. The positions that we have established with leaders in our target markets also provide a strong foundation for the acquisition of new enterprise customers. The Director of Strategic Accounts will lead the team of over 50 enterprise focused sales leaders and account managers, be responsible for growing a portfolio of over $200M in company revenue, and partner with our marketing, product and fulfillment teams to develop and execute strategies that will drive the next phase of growth with our most important customers.

This position will report directly to the Americas Head of Sales

As the Director of Strategic Accounts, you will:

  • Develop and execute sales strategies, drive revenue growth, and oversee a team of ~5 Sales Managers and 30-50 Account Managers
  • Develop and implement enterprise sales strategies: Collaborate with product, marketing, and fulfillment teams to develop comprehensive sales strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives and revenue targets for our enterprise accounts.
  • Drive revenue growth: Take ownership of the sales pipeline and actively pursue opportunities to drive revenue growth.
  • Work closely with the sales team to achieve and exceed regional sales targets, monitor performance, and provide guidance and coaching as needed.
  • Team management and leadership: Build, develop, and lead a high-performing enterprise sales team.
  • Recruit and retain top talent, provide training and mentoring, and setting clear performance expectations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the enterprise sales organization.
  • Strategic account management: Develop and maintain relationships with key clients and strategic partners.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling, and expanding business with existing customers.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and address any issues or concerns promptly.
  • In-depth knowledge of selling strategies and methods
  • Market intelligence and competitive analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the executive team.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product, and operations teams to ensure alignment of enterprise sales efforts with marketing initiatives, product development, and operational processes.
  • Sales forecasting and reporting: Develop and maintain accurate sales forecasts, reports, and performance metrics for the team.
  • Present enterprise sales data and insights to the executive team, highlighting key trends, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Make data-driven decisions to optimize sales performance in leading and expanding our sales efforts in the Americas region.

What it takes:

  • 15+ years of proven Enterprise direct sales experience with 5+ years of team leadership experience
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building, developing, and managing high-performing sales teams for enterprise accounts.
  • Proven track record of success in sales leadership roles in a business-to-business environment
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing market and account-based sales strategies, achieving sales targets, and driving revenue growth.
  • Experience developing, executing and managing sales process, sales pipeline, forecast and progress to revenue targets using Salesforce as the primary sales enablement, tracking and reporting platform.
  • Great strategic planning, organizational and creative thinking skills
  • In-depth knowledge of selling strategies and methods.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and understanding of financial metrics related to sales performance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other departments.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. Work Environment:

Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. However, there may be job duties that require the employee to spend time in the manufacturing areas exposed to machinery and noise; eye protection occasionally required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
