Job Description
Primary Objective:  To function tactically and strategically to maximize return on assets by establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, controls, metrics and reporting, and providing analysis for decision making.  This position is a key member of the organization’s collaborative, “roll-up-the-sleeves” executive team.
 
Key Job Duties:
 
  1.  Assumes managerial responsibility for operations and integrity of all accounting systems, including general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, credit and inventory.
  2. Develops tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President and executive team and make actionable recommendations on operational and strategic business plans, projects, programs and systems.
  3. Develops and manages cost accounting processes to help achieve desired gross margins.
  4. Develops annual business plan and related processes.  Interfaces with department leaders to prepare, analyze, integrate, consolidate and track information.
  5. Develops and manages the preparation, maintenance and timely delivery of regular financial planning reports including monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  6. Conducts analysis of materials and purchasing processes from costing through vendor payment to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  7. Reviews and analyzes capital expenditure requests for completeness, measurability and validity of costing and value realization.  Analyze capital spending variances to budget and provide explanation for variances.  Monitors inventory for variances, cost increases, discrepancies and turnover.
  8. Manages cash management processes by maximizing returns and limiting risk.
  9. Continually assesses and evaluates opportunities for providing additional data to assist operations, sales and leadership team in decision-making processes.
  10. Manages bank relationships and reporting requirements.
  11. Manages year-end review, including overseeing accuracy of year-end inventory valuation.
  12. Conducts due-diligence for business expansion opportunities and makes risk vs. rewards recommendation to owners.
  13. Ensures management of, and compliance with Federal and State tax withholding and filing obligations including payroll, business and mulit-state.
  14. Works closely with the outside CPA firm during annual “review” of financial statement (including preparation of schedules and account reconciliations) and tax return preparation and tax planning.
  15. Establishes and implements short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.
  16. Assumes responsibility for all transactions that are handled within the accounting department with an expectation of complete accuracy.
  17. Maintains active membership on the executive team, contributing to the development and implementation of tactical and strategic plans.
  18. Maintains a sound control environment that provides for the safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial records.
  19. Maintain company’s financial stability and integrity through sound decision-making.
Strategic
 
  1.  Assesses organizational financial performance against both the annual budget and company’s long-term strategy.
  2. Identifies trends and provides the financial perspective for key business decisions, and managing profitability and cash flow.
  3. Monitors and implements the financial forecast for the organization, analyzes financials, and recommends changes in an effort to improve the long-term financial health of the organization.
  4. Establishes and ensures systems are developed and utilized to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems, functions, controls and procedures.
  5. Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
  6. Ensures systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.                                                                                                                           
Qualifications:

                Education/Training:
                Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or other related field.
                Preferred:  CPA
 
  Knowledge/Skills:
  •  Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  •  Ability to effectively develop and analyze options, recommend solutions, and solve complex issues.
  • Strong leadership skills, evidenced by successfully building and motivating teams, and by effectively working as a partner with a leadership team.
  • Professional written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order over same.
  • Able to manage company and financial information with discretion and in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Ability to use various computer programs utilized in fiscal management including spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software.
 
Experience and/or Other Requirements:
  •  At least 7 years accounting experience as Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accountant which includes general ledger, cost accounting, budget management, financial reporting, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Experience in a manufacturing and/or engineering environment.
  • Experience preparing budges and cost benefit analyses.
  • Experience with:  Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management or ISO 9000.
