Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
  • Night, Weekend and Holiday Dispatcher is responsible for quick problem solving and communicating all pertinent information to drivers, customers and office co-workers to resolve issues.
     
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
 
  • High school education or beyond
  • Basic computer knowledge with strong typing skills and accuracy
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Working geographic knowledge of the United States, thorough knowledge of assigned planning area
  • Ability to operate with sense of urgency (multi-task)
  • Diligent & conscientious work ethic
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Exhibit good decision-making skills
  • Problem solve and communicate all pertinent information to drivers,  customers and office co-workers to resolve issues
  • Work in a fast pace environment-High volume dispatching
  • Manage and direct activities for each department in after-hours operations under the direction of the supervisor for each divisions
  • Track shipments providing on time service
  • Identify and monitor arrival, loaded and empty calls, as well as PO’s, lumpers and toll roads
  • Monitor service failures and report to Customer Service
  • Monitor the “Hot Customer List” every 4 hours
  • Notify the on-call weekend Customer Service Representative if a JIT shipment is late
  • Communicate proficiently and respectfully with drivers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent worker who is a self-motivator, takes pride in accomplishments and is results oriented
  • Computer proficiency in Excel, Databases & Internet usage
  • Manage computer dispatch systems and maintain customer relationships in the dispatch and supervision of drivers on loads
  • Ensure driver compliance with Department of Transportation regulations
  • Facilitate all over the road breakdowns, accidents, weather delays and any route exceptions
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to document processes, research and resolve issues
  • Promote professional attitudes and conduct by performing assigned duties in a professional, timely manner
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays
