Job Description
Metal Fabrication Machinist

Job Purpose:
To manufacture quality precision parts per specifications while working under close supervision. To assist in the development of products as required.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Verifies operation to be performed and material to be used on each job as directed by worklist or supervisor.
  • Reviews route sheet for information regarding work center identification, operation to be performed and appropriate tooling.
  • Sets up all equipment with appropriate stops, clamps, limit switches. Determines appropriate dimensions by blueprint, proper feeds and speed by manual calculation and/or machinery handbooks and charts. May load programs in or take programs out of the computer or make adjustments to the program.
  • Operates machines, produces parts and inspects parts to specifications in a manner which meets or exceeds production standards.
  • Uses measuring devices and blueprints to inspect parts for tolerance and visually inspects surface for rust, scratches and other potential problems.
  • Accurately completes all required paperwork at completion of job to ensure accuracy of numbers of parts produced, associated scrap and appropriate movement of parts to next operation. Verifies rate of parts produced against routing and informs supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Participates in company sponsored training as required.
  • Assists supervisor in training function as directed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area.
  • Adheres to all safety standards and procedures and maintains an ongoing awareness of safety for self and others in assigned work area.
  • Reports all items needing corrective action to supervisor i.e.. drawing errors, tool problems, equipment problems, route sheets, material problems, part counts.
  • Ensures security and proper use of company equipment, tooling and supplies.
  • Monitors and maintains prescribed tool inventory and initiates tool and equipment repair requests.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Post high school technical education or equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to use measuring devices.
  • Knowledge of machine capabilities and safety factors associated with use.
  • Knowledge of shop math and its application.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant Standing.
  • Frequent reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling and repetitive motion.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection as necessary.
