Bloomington Public Schools mission is to be an educational leader developing in ALL of our learners the ability to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Bloomington Public Schools is focused on academic excellence. Nine of our 15 schools are Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence and another six have received Minnesota School of Excellence designations. Their distinction is due in large part to a dedicated and talented team of staff who consistently earn state and national recognition for their efforts in educational excellence.
More than 10,000 students attend one of our 10 elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8) and two high schools (9-12). The District supports more than 1,500 young children and their parents at our two early childhood family centers. Continued learning is provided for adults in our two community education centers, which provide lifelong learning opportunities to the residents of Richfield, Edina and Bloomington.
CORE VALUES — What drives our words and behavior
VISION — What we intend to create
STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS — Our focused allocation of resources
Bloomington Public Schools is proud of its diverse community.
Bloomington Public Schools strives to provide support for its diverse community of students and staff. The District’s Office of Educational Equity (OEE) works to ensure ALL students have the opportunity to thrive in an educational environment. OEE’s purpose is to support the District’s diverse population by enhancing interracial and multi-cultural educational opportunities to promote student achievement, and to provide training for staff and parents to increase interactions and understanding.
We believe:
Technologically Focused
Bloomington Public Schools strives to provide learners, staff, and administration the knowledge, skills and technological tools that enable them to solve problems, think creatively, continue learning, and develop their maximum potential in today's global society.
Throughout our schools you will find state-of-the-art media centers and curriculum designed for 21st Century learning. Many of our schools also have integrated curriculum focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), and laptops in the classroom for interactive online learning.
Community & Parent Supported
Research shows that a school system needs a strong supportive community to be successful. Bloomington Public Schools has a long-standing tradition of providing a quality education because we are part of an outstanding community. Our parents have consistently rated the schools’ academics, climate and safety, and communications very high on annual parent satisfaction surveys. The most recent surveys showed an 85 percent or greater satisfaction rating in these areas.
The City of Bloomington: a great place to live and visit
From its founding in 1858, Bloomington has blossomed into a dynamic urban center with more than 85,000 residents and 100,000 employees.
Bloomington lies at the heart of the southern metro area, 10 miles south of downtown Minneapolis. The city is bound by Interstate 494 to the north, Highway 169 to the west and the Minnesota River to the south and east.
It is recognized nationally for the United States' largest enclosed shopping center, Mall of America. The Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is directly north of the city. Light rail transit connects the airport to the Mall of America and dowtown Minneapolis. It is presently the only suburb in the metro to be serviced by a light rail line.
Fiscally, the City maintains the highest triple A bond ratings from three ratings agencies: Standard & Poor's, Moody's, and Fitch.
