History:

W3i has its roots in “free stuff”—high demand, digital content distributed with ad-supported models.

In 1998 Robert and Ryan Weber, identical twin brothers, started their business in their dorm rooms at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN. With their first business, FreeStuffCenter.com, they learned the ins-and-outs of affiliate marketing and discovered that screensavers, wallpaper and clip art received a large volume of searches with minimal competition for that traffic. In 2000 they were joined by their brother, Aaron Weber, and founded their next business, Freeze.com, offering high demand, exclusive desktop content for “free” funded by various ad-supported models. W3i invested over $2 million in content for quality 3D and flash screensavers, animated wallpaper and clip art. In August, 2003, Freeze.com purchases Screensaver.com from RI Soft Systems—the father of screensaver development on the Internet. Wallpapers.com was purchased and launched in December, 2004.

In April, 2005, Freeze.com purchased Ringtone.com; and in June, 2006, entered the mobile industry offering ringtones and other mobile services through an SMS system.

In 2007 Freeze.com changes its corporate (B2B) name to W3i Holdings, LLC to encompass its desktop and mobile marketing businesses.

W3i developed and launched its proprietary installation system, Install IQ, in February, 2008; and it becomes the first Windows installation system to be certified in the TRUSTe Trusted Download Program in May, 2008.

W3i sold Ringtone.com and its assets to New Motion, Inc., doing business as Atrinsic, on June 30, 2008. The sale was in line with our strategic intent to be the market share leader in the Integrated Interactive Media industry to allow us to focus on our core business.

W3i employs over 50 people in the St. Cloud, MN, area.
